Secretary of the headquarters of biotechnology development of science and technology deputy of the president, said, “A collection of domestically produced Covid-19 vaccines, which have the potential to be offered internationally, will be introduced in the country this October.”
The outbreak of Covid-19 in the world has affected many citizens of different countries and killed many people. So far, more than 164 million people worldwide have been infected with this evil virus, and nearly 5.3 million people have died from it.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the countries that suffered a lot during the pandemic. Especially because of the oppressive sanctions imposed by the United States and Europe against its government and people.
But the efforts of young Iranian scientists and the jihadist spirit of the resilient people of Iran not only led them to cross the hard corona waves, but the country will soon become one of the hubs for the production of Covid-19 vaccines.
However, referring to the poor distribution of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine, the director-general of the World Health Organization said that the world has entered the state of “Vaccine Apartheid”.
The organization’s secretary-general, Tedros Adhanom, has called on the makers of the Covid-19 vaccine to allocate doses of ready-to-inject vaccines to the Covax program ahead of schedule. He also called the leaders of rich countries that instead of vaccinating children (of their countries), give vaccines to poor countries.
IRI can supply Covid-19 vaccine for Mid-East
Regarding the latest status of the Covid-19 vaccine produced in Iran, Dr. Minoo Mohraz said, “From, May 16, 2021, the third phase of the pilot injection will begin in 20,000 people, and the results of these injections will be sent to the decision-making authorities.”
Currently in the city of Tehran, and from May 22, in the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz, and Bushehr, the Iranian vaccine will be injected into volunteers of different ages, and after receiving positive results, it will be injected into all citizens.
In response to the question, “If the Iranian vaccine reaches mass production, can we supply neighboring countries?”, the member of Iran’s National Anti-Covid-19 campaign answered, “After obtaining a license from international monitoring centers, we can export to any country that wants Iranian-made vaccines. Iran even has the potential to supply vaccines to Middle Eastern countries.”
The Iranian vaccine creates the necessary resistance against Covid, UK variant. We need to do other tests to find out if Iranian vaccines make resistance against other mutated variants of Covid - such as Indian or African.
A collection of Iranian-made Covid-19 vaccines will be introduced in October
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the headquarters of biotechnology development of science and technology deputy of the president, said, “A collection of domestically produced Covid-19 vaccines, which have the potential to be offered internationally, will be introduced in the country this October.”
“Iran has no problem in the field of medicine production, and with the support of the “Innovation and Prosperity Fund” for the production of domestic vaccines, we will have a good basket of vaccines in October this year,” Dr. Mostafa Ghanei added.
“In the field of biotechnology, in the last four years, we have identified the potential of universities to develop technologies related to this field. In this regard, the agreement of the presidents of 60 universities affiliated to the Ministry of Science was obtained, and they announced the capabilities of higher education centers in the field of biotechnology,” said the Secretary of the headquarters of biotechnology development of science and technology deputy of the president, pointing out the accelerators in attracting technology cores.
“Currently, 500 Knowledge Enterprise have been set up in Iran that needs to connect to universities to be supported. We are therefore working with the “Innovation and Prosperity Fund” to guide these accelerators. In such a way that we provide financial support to the company that is requesting the purchase of technology, in order to connect the cores of technology with the buyer,” he noted, explaining the role of accelerators in technology development.
