Fasting during Ramadan divine duty leads man to spiritual progress: Ayatollah Ramazani

In the second episode of the special internet program “Facing the Sky”, which is broadcast on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, referring to the issue of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan in the context of the Covid-19 virus, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani Gilani stated, “This issue is one of the questions that are asked of sources of emulation today and needs to be explained.”

“The virus is a threat to human society, has spread across the country, and has killed many people,” added the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, saying that human society has been affected by the coronavirus for more than a year.

“Unfortunately, during the Covid-19 pandemic, many became depressed and many could not properly analyze it,” he stated, pointing out that the issue of Covid-19 should be addressed theologically and in terms of social, cultural, and economic effects.

“Today, society is looking for answers to these questions,” emphasized Ayatollah Ramazani, referring to the jurisprudential dimension of the effects and consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Everyone should pay attention to the health protocols regarding the Covid-19,” stated the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, stating that the virus threatens those who are weak more.

“Fasting is a divine duty, and every duty is a divine blessing that leads man to spiritual progress,” he clarified, pointing out that people who are not sick and have the conditions for fasting should fast during the holy month of Ramadan.

“Communication with God is an essential human need, and if the man wants to find himself and seek growth and peace, he must communicate with God,” Ayatollah Ramazani said, stating that lack of communication with God has created problems for human beings.

“All the divine prophets (a.s.) came to teach human beings to be on the path of serving God,” added the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

“Man needs a strong spirit to rise spiritually and face difficulties and hardships,” he clarified.

“For those who can fast, it is not permissible to break the fast during Ramadan,” Ayatollah Ramazani clarified, pointing out that fasting, like prayer, is one of the necessities of religion and part of the pillar of Sharia.

“Of course, fasting is not a duty for those who reasonably think that fasting causes disease, aggravation of the disease, or delay in recovery,” pointed out the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

“It is enough if a specialist and religious physician tells a person that fasting is harmful to him,” he stressed, explaining the rational reason for not fasting.

“It is enough if a person feels himself and the doctor says that fasting is harmful to him. Of course, after recovering from the disease, fasting will be obligatory on that person and he must make up for it,” Ayatollah Ramazani stated, referring to the opinion of some jurists regarding fasting during illness.

“God is all-knowing and all-wise, and we must all pay attention to this point,” added the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, pointing out that all these cases are when the man wants to prove his servitude to God.

“According to his wisdom, God has assigned a duty to human beings, and human beings should benefit from the effects of divine rule and duty,” he added, stating that we need God to achieve growth and perfection and taking care of ourselves.

“Man can contribute to the peace of himself and society by carrying out the divine command,” Ayatollah Ramazani clarified, pointing out that performing divine duties is a kind of presence before God Almighty.

“Certainly, when people have the peace they need, society will enjoy peace as a result,” said the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.
