Ramadan opportunity to avoid ignorance/Ignorance cause of many injustices, oppressions, discriminations: Ayatollah Ramazani

In the sixth episode of the special internet program “Facing the Sky”, which is broadcast on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, pointing out that Ramadan is the month of God’s feast, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani Gilani stated, “The holy month of Ramadan is an opportunity for human beings to save themselves from ignorance and its harms.”

“Ignorance is the greatest disease of human society that, as it spreads, deprives man of his scientific, spiritual and human identity, personality and life,” stated the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, referring to the supplication for liberation from ignorance, such as the supplication on the third day of the holy month of Ramadan.

“In this month, man's attention to God increases and this is one of the reasons for liberation from ignorance,” he said, considering the holy month of Ramadan as a factor to avoid ignorance.

“The greatest ignorance is that man is ignorant of himself,” emphasized Ayatollah Ramazani, saying that man tries to benefit more from God during Ramadan.

“The ignorance of some is to the extent that they do not even try to be on the path of knowledge,” added the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, pointing out that in some hadiths it is stated that the worst kind of ignorance for man is to be proud of his ignorance.

“Some people think they have to say everything they know, and that’s good,” he said, “This is a kind of ignorance because sometimes some words cause disputes between individuals, groups, cities, and tribes.”

“In Nahj al-Balaghah, Imam Ali (a.s.) complains about those who live in ignorance,” said Ayatollah Ramazani, referring to the harms of ignorance.

“Ignorance is the greatest enemy of the man who has hit human society and separated it from its goals,” stated the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, pointing out that the death of the ignorant is a misguidance.

“Many massacres, atrocities, injustices, discrimination, and social problems are caused by ignorance,” he said, “The source of many of these problems is ignorance and Imam Reza (a.s.) has considered the enemy of man as his ignorance.”

“The ignorance causes the individual and society to become corrupt and man to be on the path of disbelief and polytheism,” said Ayatollah Ramazani, introducing ignorance as the basis of evils.

“Extremism is the result of ignorance, and the ignorant man judges quickly, takes a sharp stance,” stated the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, pointing out that ignorance causes parochialism, ideological and moral deviation, narcissism, self-aggrandizement, self-judgment, stubbornness, and arrogance.

“We must ask God to give us the strength to fight ignorance. Fighting ignorance saves both individuals and society,” he said, considering man’s ignorance of himself is the cause of his lack of identity.
