Abu Talib’s poems window for escaping oppression: Ayatollah Marvi

As the “International Conference of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.); Supporter of the Great Prophet (p.b.u.h)” approached, professor of the high levels of seminary teachings at Qom seminary, Ayatollah “Javad Marvi”, accepted a group of organizers of this academic event.

“Those who are familiar with the history of Islam know the importance of exploring the character of Abu Talib (a.s.). Therefore, character his should have been recognized as important”, said the member of Supreme Council of Islamic Seminaries of Qom, appreciating the holding of the “International Conference of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.)”.

“This ode is one of the Mu’allaqat al-Saba’ * (The Seven Suspended Odes or The Seven Hanging Poems), and Ibn Kathir mentions this ode in several places. In one place he brings the whole ode, which is ninety-two verses, and considers it to be the “the most eloquent odes” among The Seven Suspended Odes” added Ayatollah Marvi, referring to the “Lamia ode” of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.), according to the Hawza news agency.

“The ode is in praise of the Holy Prophet of Islam and shows a part of the history of Islam. It will have significant results if we can present this poem accurately and correctly in the Arab world and bring all the commentaries and translations of this poem”, he added.

The member of the Supreme Council of Islamic Seminaries of Qom stated, “A young Sunni scholar in the “Arab Maghreb” recites the entire of Abu Talib’s ode in a single speech; however, the Shiites who have been advised by the AhlulBayt (a.s.) to recite it and teach the ode to their children are unaware of it, and this is a source of regret and shame.

“These valuable treasures must be preserved among the seminarians as a valuable heritage”, Marvi emphasized.

“It is unfortunate that this position has not been properly explained. This sentence of Allameh Tabatabai following surah al Qasas, Verse 56, shows this position. “The actions of Abu Talib (a.s.) alone in the ten years before the Hijarah (Migration of the Prophet from Mecca to Medina), were equal to the actions of all the Muhajerin (people who migrated with the Prophet from Mecca to Medina) and the Ansar (people who helped the Prophet and Muhajerin in Medina) in the ten years after the Migration,” Allameh said”, he said, referring to the position of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.) in the development of Islam.

In the end, Ayatollah Marvi considered it necessary to appreciate the Sunni writers who have come out in support of Abu Talib (a.s.) and added, “With the appreciation of these Sunni scholars, we must revive their works and use them to save Abu Talib from the oppression imposed on him by his enemies and the enemies of Imam Ali (a.s.).”

At the beginning of the session, Deputy Secretary General and Deputy of Cultural Affairs of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, Hujat al-Islam Ahmadi Tabar, presented a report on the activities of the Assembly to hold the conference of Abu Taleb (a.s.) in the last three years.

* The Muʻallaqāt is a group of seven long Arabic poems. The name means The Suspended Odes or The Hanging Poems, the traditional explanation being that these poems were hung on or in the Kaaba in Mecca, while scholars have also suggested that the hanging is figurative, as if the poems "hang" in the reader's mind.

It should be mentioned that by the initiation of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, and support and cooperation of the similar institutions, including, “Imam Hossein (a.s.) Holy Shrine”, “Hazrat Aboutaleb Research and Publishing Institute”, “The World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought”, “Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy of Islamic Propagation Office”, “Al-Mustafa International University”, “Hawza Language teaching center”, “International University of AhlulBayt (a.s.)”, “Mirath-e Nabowat Cultural Institute”, “Jamiat al-Zahra Seminary University”, “Zorria al-Nabawia Research Center”, “Qasem ibn al-Hassan (a.s.)
